The entrance to the Malerweg
Liebethaler Grund via Lohmen to Wehlen

Brücke über Fluss, Liebethaler Grund

The first stage of the famous Malerweg begins in Liebethaler Grund. We hike along the bubbling stream to Lohmen, with a bit of luck we will see the kingfisher and the dipper. From Lohmen we reach the dark and spooky Uttewalder Grund, where Caspar David Friedrich once spent several days and painted the famous rock gate. On this varied hike through gorges down to the Elbe valley, you will learn more about the formation of this landscape and the geology. The close connection between nature and art, which already captivated the Romantic painters, is particularly noticeable here.
